BUDA — On Saturday, Aug. 1, the inaugural Battle on the Gridiron brought together the Buda Fire Department and the Buda Police Department for a friendly 7-on-7 flag football game, all to benefit the Hays County Food Bank.
Although the fire department was ahead most of the game, the police department pulled away in the end for a 32-28 victory.
The real winner, however, was the community. The event generated food donations and helped raise awareness for families across Hays County, who rely on the food bank’s services.
Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5 Judge Sandra Bryant conducted the coin toss and Buda City Council member Kimberly Goodman presented the trophy.
After tallying on Monday, the food bank shared that a total of 829 pounds was collected from the drive.
