Police provide update on officer-involved shooting
BUDA — At 3:59 a.m. on Sept. 5, a Buda police officer conducted a traffic stop at the 1500 block of IH-35 due to suspicious circumstances and an uninsured vehicle. While being questioned, the individual first allegedly provided false identification and then, when told to stay inside the vehicle, stepped out and pointed a gun at the officer, according to the Buda Police Department. It was then that the officer fired at the suspect and began an on-foot pursuit.

Sports physician warns against heat illnesses in athletes
HAYS COUNTY — As summer comes to an end and school begins, students are preparing to enter the sports season in the ever-climbing temperatures of Central Texas. According to Dr. Leigh Romero, a primary care sports medicine physician at Ascension Seton in Austin, there are 9,000 heat related illnesses reported annually in high school sports and they are the third most common cause of death in athletes.

Kyle City Council considers debt defeasance for the upcoming fiscal year
KYLE — During its July 29 budget meeting, Kyle City Council directed staff to look at the possibility of keeping the property tax rate the same for 2024. At its Aug. 10 special meeting, council was presented with a debt defeasance option.
