DSISD voters approve $223.7 million bond

DRIPPING SPRINGS — Dripping Springs voters passed a $223.7 million bond to keep up with the district’s growth during the May 6, 2023 election. Voters also decided who would fill the DSISD Board of Trustees positions and whether or not to pass North Hays County Emergency Service District No. 1’s Proposition A.

Buda seeks victim liaison
— Currently, the Buda Police Department is the only law enforcement agency in Hays County that does not have at least one victim assistance position, which would provide a high level of service to victims of crime in Buda. A grant could soon change that.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica visits Kyle
— Dozens of war veterans walked in silence through the flag-lined sidewalk as they hugged each other and spoke of the 20 years that forever changed them. The city of Kyle hosted an opening ceremony for The Wall That Heals, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica and mobile education center, on the morning of May 4.

Voters approve $315.6M bonds, elect new trustees
HAYS COUNTY — Approximately 12,176 Hays County citizens turned out on Saturday, May 6 for the election, which would determine who would fill positions on the Hays CISD Board of Trustees and approve or deny four bonds proposed by the district for new facilities and equipment.

Child molester sentenced to 35 years
Hays County District Attorney Kelly Higgins announced today that on Monday, May 1, Nathan Allen, 41, entered a guilty plea to four child abuse charges, according to a press release by the DA’s Office.

Swimming at Jacob’s Well remains closed
Hays County park officials announced over the weekend that swimming at Jacob’s Well remains cancelled for the foreseeable future. “At this time, water levels and spring flow are still too low to safely allow swimming. Jacob's Well Natural Area is still open to the public for hiking and viewing the spring, however, no water access will be permitted,” officials said. The county will continue to update the public if conditions change.

ESD 1 seeks approval for Prop A
HAYS COUNTY — North Hays County Emergency Services District 1 (ESD1) is seeking the voters’ approval of Proposition A — a measure that, if approved, would move the tax cap for ESD1 from the current rate of $0.03/$100 of assessed home value to $0.10/$100 assessed value — the maximum allowed by the state of Texas.
