Journalism felt like a second nature
“I think journalism gets measured by the quality of information it presents, not the drama or the pyrotechnics associated with us.” — Bob Woodward ——— Like many other little girls, I took the whole “dream big” advice seriously. If you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, at 8 years old, I would’ve told you, “I want to be the first woman president, and my priority after taking office would be to paint the White House lime green because it is my favorite color.” Thankfully, I have two wonderful parents who have always fully supported any aspirations I’ve had throughout my life (including the two months following the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster when I wanted to be an astronaut).

Test scores are just a number
“You've done all of your homework and studied hard, and you think you have a grip on the material. But then the day of the test comes. Suddenly, you blank out, freeze up, zone out, or feel so nervous that you can't get it together to respond to those questions you knew the answers to just last night.” — Nemours TeensHealth ——— Test anxiety is a type of performance anxiety — a feeling someone might have when performance counts or when the pressure’s on to do well.

Capital Highlights: What's happening in Texas this week
The Texas House approved a $302 billion budget last week that included an amendment prohibiting the use of state money on private school tuition — a major setback to Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to establish a school voucher system. The Austin American-Statesman reported that more than 20 Republicans joined nearly all House Democrats to pass the amendment, while 11 lawmakers voted present.

Keep on truckin’ in your pickup
As a few of y’all know and many of y’all suspect, I own a pickup truck. Actually, I own two trucks, but only one leaves the ranch.

Mindfulness: An act of loving yourself
“I’m going to tell you a secret about everyone else’s job: no one knows what they’re doing. Deep down everyone is just faking it until they figure it out. And you will too, because you are awesome and everyone else sucks.” – April Ludgate, Parks and Recreation ——— I graduated from college from the bedroom of my tiny student housing apartment in San Marcos — five months into the COVID-19 pandemic, but already having had to completely transform my way of living and thinking.
