On Jan. 22, the head football coaching vacancy for Hays High School was officially filled when it was announced that Mark Torres, former Pebble Hills High School head coach, would take the position. Then, on Feb. 9, Torres arrived at Hays High School and kickstarted a new era of Hays athletics. With the arrival of Coach Torres, that begs the question: what should the people of Hays expect from their new coach?

Staff Report DRIPPING SPRINGS — Five Dripping Springs High School choir students qualified for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest after competing at the UIL Region 18 Solo and Ensemble competition on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Hays High School in Buda.

The Dripping Springs Tigers competed in their first meet of the season on Feb. 8 at the Hawks Relays, hosted by Hays High School.

Lehman and Hays high schools will hold a fundraiser, titled Goggle It 5K, for their respective aquatic teams on Feb. 24.

The Moe & Gene Johnson High School dance teams earned numerous awards this past weekend at the MA Dance contest hosted by the Hays Highsteppers at Hays High School.

Following closed session, the Hays CISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved several hirings at its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 22.
