— The sport of pickleball is becoming more popular in communities across the nation, including those in Hays County.

Johnson High School hosted its Decision Day on May 5 for seniors to celebrate their future and show off their school pride to the university or future path of their choice.

HAYS COUNTY — A week following the postponement of any action on the subdivision, the Hays County Commissioners Court met again on May 2 to discuss the MileStone development, Hays Commons subdivision.

SAN MARCOS – “Hays County has seen too many young people and children as young as 15 years of age die in the throes of a fentanyl overdose,” said Hays County District Attorney Kelly Higgins.

BUDA — The Lady Johnson Jaguars 4x2 relay team is headed to state for the second consecutive year, but this time comes a new set of challenges. This is the team’s first year competing as a 6A school.

— Boling Law Firm is more of a gallery than a law office. Each piece is either local or self-made, a testament to Anna Martinez Boling’s emphasis on local art and its importance.

— “On both of our bridges … we’ve had people jump off of them and so, that is where it becomes some sort of responsibility to at least direct [residents to resources],” said council member Yvonne Flores-Cale.

— Currently, the Buda Police Department is the only law enforcement agency in Hays County that does not have at least one victim assistance position, which would provide a high level of service to victims of crime in Buda. A grant could soon change that.

— Dozens of war veterans walked in silence through the flag-lined sidewalk as they hugged each other and spoke of the 20 years that forever changed them. The city of Kyle hosted an opening ceremony for The Wall That Heals, a Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica and mobile education center, on the morning of May 4.

HAYS COUNTY — Approximately 12,176 Hays County citizens turned out on Saturday, May 6 for the election, which would determine who would fill positions on the Hays CISD Board of Trustees and approve or deny four bonds proposed by the district for new facilities and equipment.

The Kyle Police Department announced it has arrested and charged two people with various drug charges after fentanyl and other narcotics were found in a residence in the presence of two children.
