By Brittany Kelley HAYS COUNTY — At its Aug. 15 meeting, the Hays County Commissioners Court presented an item to approve the creation of a new justice court.

— The Hays County Commissioners Court honored first responders who serve in the community on Aug. 1 by recognizing the 175th anniversary of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

Hays County and TxDOT invited the community to participate in a ribbon-cutting celebration for the RM 967/Robert S. Light Boulevard project at 10:30 a.m. on July 13. After the ribbon was cut by Hays County Commissioner Walt Smith, he, Rep. Erin Zwiener, TxDOT Austin District Engineer Tucker Ferguson, Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra and Buda council member Evan Ture spoke to the small crowd shying away from the sun as traffic whizzed by.

— Following the postponement of any action on the item during the last meeting, the Hays County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a development agreement on June 6 for Mission Oaks Condominiums between the county, Davy Crockett Estates, LLC and Lang Family Ranches L.P.

— As the county grows, Austinbased company MileStone Community Builders has approached multiple government entities with proposals for subdivisions including Hays Commons, located at FM 1626 and Carpenter Lane in Manchaca.

— In response to the recent winter storm, the Hays County Commissioners Court declared an emergency use of general fund reserves for debris removal last week.
