Hays CISD have several new principals who are expected to take over the reins of various schools. The positions were approved by the school board during its August meetings.
Science Hall Elemenentary
Soor-el Puga was named the principal for Science Hall Elementary School, Hays CISD Superintendent Michael McKie announced Friday
Puga has been the assistant principal at Buda Elementary School since 2011. Puga has been an educator for 14 years, almost all of which have been spent serving at Hays CISD schools. He began teaching in Hays CISD in 2001 at Hemphill Elementary.
In 2006, he was a teacher at Science Hall Elementary and served as the campus’ acting principal as part of a leadership internship. In 2010, he served as the instructional technologist and interim assistant principal at Tobias Elementary before accepting the assistant principal job at Buda Elementary.
In 2014, Puga served as the interim principal at Buda Elementary and was named the district’s assistant principal of the year.
He holds a master’s degree in education from Texas Tech University and earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin. He also holds an educational administration certification from Texas A&M University – Kingsville.
Buda Elementary
Tim Robinson has been named Buda Elementary principal.
Robinson has been the assistant principal at Dahlstrom Middle School since 2011.
Robinson has enjoyed a successful career as an educator for the past 15 years. He began teaching in 1999 at a school district in New Mexico. In 2002, he joined the Hays CISD family at Elm Grove Elementary as a fourth grade teacher. Through 2011, he also taught fourth grade at Science Hall and Carpenter Hill Elementary schools. Robinson completed the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) Master Teacher opportunity and an administrative internship prior to becoming the assistant principal of Dahlstrom Middle School. In 2013, he was named the district’s assistant principal of the year.
Robinson holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas State University in San Marcos. He earned his bachelor’s degree, majoring in education, from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Prior to his career in education, Robinson served in the United States Navy, earning a national defense medal for service during Operation Desert Storm.
Camino Real Elementary
Yvette Soliz has been named interim Camino Real Elementary principal.
Soliz was most recently the assistant principal of Williams Elementary in Austin ISD and was honored as the 2012-2013 Austin ISD Assistant Principal of the Year.
Soliz has been in the education business for more than 20 years. She began teaching kindergarten in 1992 in Hebbronville, Texas. In 1996, she became a school counselor, earning experience at a junior high school, an early childhood learning center and two other elementary schools. In 2006, she was named the assistant principal at Williams Elementary in Austin ISD where she has served until joining Hays CISD in July. Soliz has also served multiple times as the fifth grade summer school principal in Austin ISD.
She holds a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in education from Texas A&M International University in Laredo. She earned her bachelor’s degree, majoring in early childhood education, from Laredo State University. She holds certifications in educational administration, school guidance and counseling, gifted and talented education for counselors, elementary early childhood education, and elementary self-contained education. Additionally, Soliz was selected for and completed the University of Texas Principalship Program.
