The Hays Lady Rebels took a 61-47 loss at home versus the Anderson Lady Trojans Friday night at Bales Gym.
The Lady Rebs outscored the Lady Trojans in the second half 29-28, but it wasn’t enough to erase a 15-point first half deficit that proved too much to overcome.
Hays went without a basket until the 2:36 mark in the first quarter. By then, Anderson’s offense had gone on a 17-point scoring streak. The loss puts the Lady Rebels at 12-5 on the season and 2-3 in district play.
The Lady Trojans used a full court press much of the game. The constant defensive pressure helped create many of the costly turnovers for Hays.
Sophomore Gabriela Bosquez lead the Rebels in scoring and attempts going 4-16 with 12 points. As a team, the Rebels shot 36% from the field on 47 attempts. Anderson was a more efficient 43% on 39 shot attempts.
Jaden Williams led in first half scoring and made a last second three-pointer that gave the Rebels the advantage in second half scoring.
Hays was down by as many as 24-points with 7:09 remaining in the game. Defensive rebounding by junior Jada Finister, who was one free throw short of a double-double, helped lower the deficit.
Compared to district counterparts, the Lady Rebels are third in scoring while allowing the third most points in district play.
The last game before Christmas break is an away district matchup with Austin High on Friday. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Austin won their first district game of the year Friday versus Akins making them 1-4 in district play.
