Legal challenges to amendments appear quashed
Legal challenges to amendments appear quashed
A half-dozen lawsuits challenging the 13 approved Texas constitutional amendments appear to be dead in the water, The Dallas Morning News reported. The secretary of state’s office last week declared the propositions approved and now a part of the Texas Constitution, while Gov. Greg Abbott canvassed the election and certified the results. One proposition that would have raised the retirement age of judges was rejected by voters. 12/13/2023 09:00 PM

“On a scale of 0-4, with zero being never and four being very often, how often would you say you have felt unhappy or sad in the last two weeks?” ------ It’s a question my therapist asks approximately every two months. She tracks my answers as a way to obtain a little bit of insight on how I have been feeling. 12/06/2023 10:10 PM

As the Texas Ranger lieutenant prepared to fight 150 or more Indians with only 18 men on Nov. 10, 1837, he must have questioned the wisdom of his reckless decision to part company with his captain, William Mosby Eastland. 11/08/2023 10:00 PM

How I met my sister-friends
We all have people, places, or things that we cherish that create memories and bonds that last for a lifetime. For me, my college years were some of the best years of my life. I joined the acapella chorus, was initiated into a sorority and worked a lectureship. 11/08/2023 09:50 PM

The grandfather clause
The grandfather clause
There is often a period of time between the last day of a new mother’s maternity leave and the first day of childcare for the infant. At least that’s what both our daughters informed us for the past thirteen years. They said according to the “experts”, it is beneficial for newborns to spend several weeks with their grandparents to enhance their psychological and sociological growth, or some mumbo-jumbo like that. Who are we to argue with experts, so we grandparents agree to babysit these little bundles of joy. 11/01/2023 09:20 PM

I'm still a journalism junkie
One day, I was on the phone with my momma reading her a blog post that I had written when she replied, “Lacy, you’ve had a pen in your hand since before you could read words. I used to always tell your father, ‘I don't know what it is about Lacy, but she is naturally drawn to pen and paper.’” Unbeknownst to me at the time that I was born with the gift of writing, a really good memory and wit, just to name a few. However, despite the fact that I was born with these gifts, I had no recollection of the times of which she was speaking. In my immediate family, I am the second of two children, and almost the youngest in my graduating class. I started school a year earlier because it was private, my tuition was free and my father was insistent that my brother and I receive a great education. 10/25/2023 09:00 PM
