By Brittany Kelley BUDA — Recent Johnson High School graduate Ally Schrandt, 18, was driving to a shift at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood when she was involved in a multi-car collision on June 22, which landed her in the hospital. Now, she is beginning her journey to recovery.

Fourteen cadets graduated from the Hays CISD Career & Technical Education Firefighter Program in partnership with Emergency Services District 5 in Kyle. The students from all three high schools in Hays CISD have completed two years of rigorous firefighter courses, equipping them with the knowledge of fire safety regulations, incident reporting and proper use of firefighting equipment.

By Brittany Kelley BUDA — The Hays CISD Board of Trustees voted 6-1 to adopt a resolution declaring hazardous traffic conditions for several roads throughout the district at its May 20 meeting.

The Texas Education Agency announced in December 2023 that the constructed response questions in the 2024 STAAR tests will be graded by a hybrid model of human scorers and an automated scoring engine (ASE).

Colten Romeo Thayer, 20, was sentenced to 120 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl in federal court on April 29.
