The following article is part three of a four-week series focusing on raising awareness about dating violence. February is Dating Violence Awareness month and we hope to educate our community on this very important issue. One in three young people will experience dating violence in their lifetime. Locally, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center has been serving victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and child abuse since 1978. Last year, HCWC served 2,054 victims of abuse (face-to-face) primarily from Hays and Caldwell counties.

HAYS COUNTY — While they are decreasing in some parts of the country, rates of COVID-19-, flu- and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)- related hospitalizations still remain elevated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And for the state of Texas as a whole, the respiratory illness level is reported as being very high.

Caleb Harter and his brother, Carl, grew up in sunny San Diego, California. Free time was spent picking the perfect hockey stick, practicing hitting the puck and learning all the rules of the game — only it was on rollerblades. After graduating college, the pair took job opportunities in Austin, where they believed their roller hockey career ended. Texans Baseball tops Tigers with 3 runs in 9th inning WIMBERLEY — Wimberley traveled to face Dripping Springs in a scrimmage baseball game on Monday, Feb. 12 and went home with a 5-2 victory after shutting out the Tigers in six straight innings.

The Dripping Springs Tigers hosted their 29th Annual Tiger Relays on Saturday, Feb. 17, with 11 area schools competing.

On Jan. 22, the head football coaching vacancy for Hays High School was officially filled when it was announced that Mark Torres, former Pebble Hills High School head coach, would take the position. Then, on Feb. 9, Torres arrived at Hays High School and kickstarted a new era of Hays athletics. With the arrival of Coach Torres, that begs the question: what should the people of Hays expect from their new coach?
