The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is looking for an inmate trustee who escaped from the Hays County Jail in San Marcos Wednesday afternoon.
According to a Hays County press release, authorities are searching for Omar Maya-Rangel, 29, of Kyle, who escaped at around 1:10 p.m.
According to the release, Rangel was performing landscape work in front of the jail facility in San Marcos when he escaped.
Rangel was in jail on two counts of theft and credit card abuse. The subject’s criminal history involves property and fraud-type offenses. According to Hays County, Rangel does not appear to be a threat to the community. His last known residence was in Kyle.
