The Wimberley High School Texans and Dripping Springs High School Tigers success stories last year ended before the final chapter for both football teams could be finished; each are eager to pick up where they left off, but the rewrite won’t be easy.

Dripping Springs was one of several Central Texas high schools that competed in the 4-day 96th Annual Texas Relays last weekend. Among the Tigers were Johnson, Westlake, Bowie, Vandegrift, Anderson, Rouse and Bastrop high schools.

By Albert Sanchez SAN ANTONIO — On Saturday, Nov. 25, the Dripping Springs Tigers traveled to the Alamodome and faced the John Jay High School Mustangs in the regionals of the UIL 6A D2 playoffs, where they would come out with a 50-27 win.

By Albert Sanchez CONVERSE — On Saturday, Nov. 18, the Dripping Springs Tigers traveled to Judson High School in Converse for the area round of the UIL 6A D2 playoffs.

The Dripping Springs Tiger football team has advanced to the Area round of the UIL 6A Division II playoffs after securing a 34-14 win against the Vista Ridge High School Rangers in the first round on Friday, Nov. 10.

DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs Tigers football team secured a 52-17 win over the Anderson High School Trojans at its latest home game on Friday night.

On Friday, Oct. 27, the Tigers traveled to take on the Del Valle High School Cardinals at Veterans Memorial Stadium. After a scoreless first quarter, and a sideline pep talk, the Tigers came alive in the second quarter.

The Jack Tyndall show started after Dripping Springs’ defense forced Lake Travis (6-2 overall; 4-2 district) to punt on their opening drive. The Tigers’ junior put on a “what it takes to be a running back in Class 6A” clinic last Friday night at Tiger Stadium. Tyndall carried the ball 38 times for 216 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Westlake High School head coach Tony Salazar excelled in sports as a student at Dripping Springs from 19961999, when he played basketball, baseball, football and ran track and his name can be found in the school’s athletic records. As a head coach, Salazar holds another record; in Dripping Springs’ second year in class 6A, his Westlake teams are 2-0 against the Tigers.

With a 48-0 win, the Dripping Springs Tigers shutout the Akins High School Eagles on Homecoming Night on Friday, Oct. 6 — but the festivities started earlier in the week for the Tigers with a campus parade and a pep rally and carnival last Wednesday.

DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Dripping Springs Tigers fell short against the Vandegrift High School Vipers, 27-7, in a non-district game on Friday, Aug. 25 in front of a near capacity home crowd.

Clark DRIPPING SPRINGS — “It hurts, and it should hurt,” Dripping Springs head coach Galen Zimmerman told the team, “You’ve worked hard and invested a lot, but don’t let this diminish what you guys accomplished this season.” Those were the words Zimmerman said to his team after a bitter 27-24 season ending loss last year to Vandegrift High School Vipers in a 6A Division II Quarterfinal. The Tigers had a fourth down and less than a yard to score a go-ahead touchdown with 1:55 in the game and fumbled.
